LOCAL RAILWAY HISTORY
Peterborough has a fabulous 'Local Railway History'. The railways first came to Peterborough in 1845 via Northampton. This was a spur off the line from London, Euston to Birmingham Railway. You would have arrived at Peterborough via Oundle and Wansford - Part of the 'Nene Valley Railway' we have today!
This is the World Speed Record Holder for a Steam Locomotive - Mallard arriving at Platform 2 of Peterborough 'North' Station in 1955. This photograph was taken by Professional Photographer Lionel Chandler who went on to be one of the Perkins Engines Photographic Team
